Call for proposals - creation of an original artwork

As part of this renewal, the municipal museum is launching a call for proposals for the creation of an original piece of artwork for the museum's new reception areas, inaugurating a new page in the museum's history.

Context and goals

The Museum of Ixelles is currently closed for extension and renovation work, and is preparing to reopen in 2025.

The architectural project for the first phase of the works, started in 2018, has opened up and enlarged the reception areas, where the new restaurant and shops will be deployed once the museum reopens. The ceiling space above these new reception areas is an ideal location to place an original and emblematic artwork.

This call for proposals is part of the Museum of Ixelles' ongoing commitment to contemporary artistic creation in Belgium, which it also supports through temporary exhibitions, its dynamic acquisition policy (geared mainly towards the contemporary Belgian art scene), and its close links with artists active in Belgium.

With its key and highly visible position in the museum, the work commissioned is intended to embody a visual and symbolic function for the Museum of Ixelles when it reopens. The project must reflect and embody the Museum of Ixelles' identity, its values and the spirit of its collections.

The call for proposals may consider any artistic form (installation, sculpture or spatial creation, painting, etc.).

Conditions

The call is open to any artist - established or emerging - domiciled in Belgium with sufficient experience to manage the project successfully from design to installation.

Applications

Applications are now closed. The results will be announced in December.

Partner

The project has been made possible thanks to the support of Degroof Petercam, the Museum of Ixelles' exclusive partner for this project to promote contemporary artistic creation in Belgium.
